Project Goal : Our goal is to provide untrained women in Costa Rica with a valuable opportunity: training as seamstresses. These women lack access to formal education, but through our 4-month courses, 20 Women they can learn new skills that will help them secure financial independence and support their families.

Key Challenges:

Start : May 2024

Course Duration : The course lasts 4 months and will prepare the women for a career in textiles – whether as independent seamstresses or working within existing businesses.

Why This Project is Important : In Costa Rica, many women lack access to education and job opportunities. This project not only offers them a career path but also empowers them with confidence and the ability to support their families. By donating, you are giving these women the chance to create a better future.

Total Budget: 15,000 USD

Secured Funds: 2000 USD

Required Funds: We require additional funds to secure the sewing course for the entire year, ensuring that more women have the opportunity to participate and learn valuable skills. With your support, we can expand the program, providing training to even more women and empowering them to build a brighter and more independent future.

Week 2: Sewing Machine Training

- Threading and operating the sewing machine - First sewing projects: Straight seams and simple shapes - Basic stitch types (straight stitch, zigzag stitch) - Practical exercise: Sewing fabric pieces together

Week 3: Stitches and Seam Types

- Different stitch types: Straight stitch, zigzag, blind hem stitch - Introduction to finishing edges (seam finishes) - Practical exercise: Hemming fabric and basic hems

Week 4: Basic Cutting Techniques

- Understanding and reading basic patterns - Proper fabric cutting techniques - Introduction to measurements and adjustments

Month 2: Building and Refining Skills

Week 5: Simple Projects

- Sewing simple household items (pillowcases, napkins) - Practical exercise: Completing small projects independently - Introduction to buttons and zippers

Week 6: Sewing Clothing

- Introduction to basic clothing items (aprons, skirts) - Sewing hems and seam finishes - Practicing buttons, buttonholes, and inserting zippers

Week 7: Alterations and Adjustments

- How to alter and modify clothing - Practical exercises: Taking in, lengthening, or shortening garments

Week 10: Everyday Garments

- Sewing a simple garment (e.g., skirt, blouse) - Working with patterns and sizing charts - Practical exercises: Darts and inserting pockets

Week 11: Embellishments and Modifications

- Creative sewing: Adding embellishments like trims, patches, and embroidery - Introduction to hand-sewn embellishments (hand stitches) - Project work: Designing and creating a personal project

Week 12: Preparing the Final Project

- Selecting and planning the final project (free choice) - Discussing fabric, pattern, and materials selection

Month 4: Professionalism & Independent Work

Week 13: Starting Final Projects

- Participants begin working on their final projects (garment or accessory) - Under guidance, they work independently using all learned techniques

Week 14: Independent Work

- Continuing the final projects - Introduction to sewing as a career (selling products, entrepreneurship)

Week 15: Final Project Completion

- Completing the final projects - Refining sewing techniques and conducting quality control

Week 16: Presentation & Graduation
